The Danish have perfected the Art of Happiness with Hygge.
Creating this vibe is seemingly, not that difficult.
A few candles, a cozy blanket, dim the lights, have some tea,
some deep mindful breaths - and you're getting there.

If you are interested in learning how the Danes take this to an art form, or just build your awareness, here’s a deep dive on Hygge

"Hygge is about giving yourself and others a treat. It is about savoring the moment and the simple pleasures of good food and good company in a cozy, warm, inviting environment.
There is an element of being present in these moments. Hygge is charged with a strong orientation and commitment towards experiencing and savoring the present moment."
We are already experienced in Hygge - sometimes it happens accidentally, we find ourselves curled up in front of a fire with a good book. Sometimes it’s fleeting, like meeting a friend in a coffee shop. There is an element of being present in these moments. Hygge is all about the present moment.

Ideas to create
this cozy environment
The one thing that every home needs is a reading nook, - a place in your house where you love to snuggle up with a blanket, with a book, and a cup of tea. Its a place for blankets and cushions, and a candle.
A fireplace is somewhere we sit and rest to experience the ultimate cozy and warmth. It’s often the center of the home, which is good for gathering and conversation, which will intensify our feelings of togetherness.
Candles, it’s almost impossible to have a sense of hygge without candles. One in every room, in nooks and bathrooms will give your home a warm glow.
Natural Elements. Things made of wood, plants, even nuts, twigs, leaves or stones. Surrounding yourself with nature serves to sooth and calm the senses.
Books: A bookshelf filled with thick books, collected over a lifetime.
Ceramics a favorite mug or a nice teapot, adding these elements will elevate the cozy.
Texture is important, it’s not all about how it looks, but how it feels. Think about the difference of touching something plastic vs running your had over a wooden table or a warm ceramic mug.
Vintage: Looking for interesting pieces in a vintage or antique shop is often a challenge, but the pieces come with a sense of history and make them all the more interesting.
Blankets and cushions are must haves…to snuggle and feel cozy.
From the Little Book of Hygge, “Hygge is the art of creating intimacy, coziness of the soul, and the absence of annoyance - to taking pleasure from the presence of soothing things, cozy togetherness. Hygge is about an atmosphere and an experience, rather than about things. It’s about being with people we love. A feeling of home. A feeling that we are safe, that we are shielded from the world and allow ourselves to let our guard down."
Hope you find a good bit of Hygge this cozy winter!
Warmly,
Lisa
